Moodboards

Pictorial boards to illustrate work.
At what stage of the design process is the tool most useful?
What does it do?

Moodboards can help bring a piece of work to life through pictures.

How do you use it?

Used in the discover phase of the design process, a moodboard can be used as a way for the co-design team to get to know each other. Ask everyone to gather pictures of ‘things I like’ and stick them on their moodboard.

Used in the define phase of the design process, a moodboard can help bring character profiles to life. After each member of the group has developed a profile, encourage them to create a moodboard to illustrate bits of the character.

Useful resources when using the tool

Use art materials and magazines to create moodboards. Take photographs of the group’s moodboards.
